A friend of mine who was looking for childcare in a self-proclaimed and completely understandable “persnickety” fashion discovered Sittercity, a website that does the hard work of locating suitable options for you, and helps you screen them, contact them and hire them in one simple place. The hard part, of course, is convincing yourself that no one will EVER be as perfect as you are to take care of your child, but there are some people out there who can do an admirable job trying.
Whether you’re looking for babysitters or nannies, Sittercity has it all. You simply log in, enter your location, and then browse a list of possible childcare matches in your area. Post a job description of what you’re looking for (very quick process), sitters/nannies on the site will respond with applications, and then you begin the interview/background check process (all free). Once you’ve found your match, you’re done.
Though my main purpose in bringing this to your attention was for childcare, Sittercity also provides access to finding tutors, pet care, senior care and housekeeping.
All of this can be tested for free for seven days; after that you select your membership (annual, 3-month, or 1-month) and receive unlimited access to caregivers. Give it a try…a week is plenty of time to determine if it’s worth the dough to maintain a membership.
